How this web advertising format has moved on.
Can you remember when banner advertising first appeared on the internet?
Well, this Online advertising format is nearly as old as the internet itself - can you believe they came into view in the mid to late 1990's!
It is fair to say that things have moved on a great deal since then and the design requirements of companies have had to keep up with the development of technology in this area.
When thry first appeared as an internet banner advertising format, people were almost clicking on them for fun - "what is this thing flashing at me," people were saying.
Well, it seems now that we don't actually like things flashing at us anymore (so to speak) and in a lot of cases the response levels from banner ads have gone down in the last two years or so.
Now, the general consensus on the advertising news sites and forums is that simple static designs beat flashy animated banners every time - this may not go down too well with creative media buying companies and advertising agencies, but a popular path seems to be emerging here.
However, all is not lost with with banner advertising as far as response rates are concerned and some online publishers are still getting very good results.
So, before embarking on any banner activity, ask the publisher what their average click through rate is based on each 5000 impressions. They certainly should be able to give you this information, as an ad response tracking system will be in place. If you are sure this portal or website is relevant to your audience, then why not try a banner for 10,000 impressions and see what you get back. If the responses back up what they have told you, then stick with it - really good advertising vehicles can be quite difficult to find these days.
There is a whole host of business advertising information out there for you to look at, so make the most of it and take any relevant advice going.
